The IMA is gradually implementing Internet-based programs to improve our service to you. As a result , we have changed the way we send out the Newsletter. Abstract: Schools of fish are formed by moving individuals who align their body axes (i.e. direction of movement). Simple models based on transport equations in one and two spatial dimensions are presented and investigated. Comparison to earlier alignment models is made. It is shown how alignment can lead to survival in situations where a non-aligning population dies out, for example due to predation.
